National Association of Black Military Women
Atlanta Metropolitan Chapter Brief History
Welcome to the Atlanta Metropolitan Chapter of the National Association of Black Military Women's website. It is our hope that by perusing our site, you will be blessed to learn about the fabulously courageous and strong women who pioneered the way bringing opportunities and pathways to generations of military women. They made it possible for us to tell our stories. The mission of the organization is to seek out, tell and record the history of Black Military Women. Though a lot of personal information has been gathered and donated, we also sought information through websites, journals, books, magazines, and other media.
It is important to remember, that even with the integration and improved conditions of today's military, the pioneers who paved the way and opened doors of opportunity should not be forgotten. These brave and courageous women who have contributed significantly making the Armed Forces the great institution, it is today, not only for African American but for ALL women in the military services.
AS NOTED ON OUR NATIONAL WEBSITE (www.nabmw.org): Photos and images are from the National Archives, The Naval History Center, The U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, Defense Visual Information Center, and the personal collections of many women and men.
